Navy Career

I joined the Navy right after graduating from High School in 1971. I was only seventeen, so my parents had to give their permission, which my father was happy to give. In August I was shipped off to Orlando to begin recruit training. While there, Disney World opened; hmmm...an omen?

Being quite naive, I was unaware that I was eligible for the draft that year, and was surprised when, shortly after my birthday, my draft notice arrived in the mail. I wish I would have kept it.

In November, I completed basic training and was shipped off to Jacksonville, Florida for AO "A" school. That's when I discovered how the real world worked. It took a few years to get it right.
